One more invasive species for river lovers to worry about...
A commercial fishing boat has found a silver 'jumping carp' in the Mississippi near La Crosse. Wisconsin DNR spokesman Ed Culhane calls that discovery “disappointing.” Until now, the silver carp had not been seen north of Clinton, Iowa.
How did it get to La Crosse? Apparently, by moving north with flood waters this summer. The silver carp can ruin river plants and disturb the balance of fish in this part of the Mississippi. And because they can jump out of the water, the fish can hurt people in boats.
